School council
- The School Council consists of two representatives from each year group including the deputy and head boy and girl from Years 12 and 13 who serve for a period of one academic year.
- School Council meets once per half term in the Library with the Assistant Headteacher.
- The dates of meetings are displayed on the School Council noticeboard in the canteen.
- The running agenda is compiled from issues raised by students in form groups and passed to year group representatives.
- Additional issues are added to the running agenda as the need arises; these may be from students, staff, the Headteacher, governors or the community.
- Communication between Form Council and the School Council is vital and works in two directions. Individuals may feed information or raise issues through form representatives to the Year Council. Similarly form representatives report back from the meetings by reading the minutes to their form. A slip is then completed to show the minutes have been read and any further suggestions are added.
- Minutes of the meetings are displayed on the School Council noticeboard.
- School councillors represent the school in a variety of activities including interviews for new staff, meetings with visitors to the school, leading tours of the school for visitors, giving feedback to staff on activities that run in school.
- Each year the school council decide on a charity to raise money for. This is usually a local charity or one that holds an importance for someone in school. In the past this has included St Giles Hospice, Multiple Sclerosis and Molly Olly’s Wishes.
- School council are instrumental in school development and are consulted on a number of issues. Council have also brought items to the attention of Senior Leaders which have been acted on.
