At Norton Canes High School the Maths homework is set using Hegarty Maths. This is a fantastic resource not least because it encourages students to take responsibility for their learning, and developing key, academic skills that are crucial for GCSE success. For information regarding how Hegarty works, please see the attached Parent Presentation. Click here
Homework will be set once per week via Show My Homework. Pupils have 7 days to compete their Hegarty homework. They can complete this using a PC, or a smart phone. Should there be any difficulties accessing the internet at home, the school run an after school homework club Monday to Thursday in the Student Development Centre until 4pm. There are also computers available in the Library at lunchtime. If your child is still struggling to access Hegarty, please encourage them to speak with their Maths teacher who can make provision to use a computer at lunchtime. Pupils are encouraged to do their homework when it is set, so that any problems or queries can be cleared up well before the deadline. Pupils are expected to: watch the whole video, and make notes in their yellow Hegarty books; complete the quiz, writing the answers in their books, and marking them in green pen. Maths teachers can see how much of the video was watched, how long was spent on each question, how many attempts have been made at each question. There is now also a ‘Help’ feature where pupils can press ‘Help’ if they are stuck and they will be taken to the part of the video that models how to do that specific question. Amazing!
At the end of each term, prizes are awarded for the most Hegarty completed. For GCSE students, there are useful revision exercises and lists of topics, with the relevant videos, that they can use to revise. Being successful at Maths couldn’t be easier! Please have a look.
