On Tuesday 11th February, our school debate club welcomed a representative of the English Speaking Union for a debate workshop event. The students were led through a series of activities to improve their public speaking skills and learned how to run a debate. The students had not taken part in a debate before today and by the end of the workshop had run two debates on “This house believes that parents should be able to monitor their children’s social media” and “This house believes that doctors should not strike”. Our students did us proud and showed themselves to be able to think quickly and communicate confidently. Moving forward, we are hoping to be able to take part in debate competitions.
