Curriculum Statement of Intent
The Music Curriculum at Norton Canes High School sets out to develop pupils’ musical knowledge and skills over time through the exploration of performance (in both solo and ensemble settings), composition and appraisal of music in its different styles and contexts. Progress in technical, constructive and expressive learning are overlaid with this to ensure that pupils develop adequate competency and musicality to fully understand the music that they perform, compose and listen to. This solid foundation in musical learning allows pupils to go on to study GCSE Music at KS4 with potential options for post-16 study in A Level or BTEC. Enrichment activities including extra-curricular clubs and visits contribute to providing pupils with wider opportunities in support of the curriculum offer.
