Welcome to Norton Canes High School
Our School is Unique….so is your Child. Aspire, Achieve, Expect to succeed.
“A culture of high expectations and aspiration” OfSted 2016.
We have recently been judged as ‘Good’ by OfSted and I urge parents and potential newcomers to our school to read the full report.
The report recognises the successes and hard work of everyone in the school including most importantly our pupils, all teams of staff within the school, our governors, parents and other professionals linked to our school. It is very rewarding to note how proud our pupils are to be a part of the school and how much they enjoy learning
Inspectors praised the ‘typically good’ behaviour of pupils and their ‘good attitudes to learning’. They also recognised the ‘commitment of all adults in the school to ensuring that pupils achieve the best that they can’ and the enthusiasm of teachers and their good subject knowledge.
Post 16 was also highly praised describing the ‘revitalising of provision’ and ‘expectation of continual improvement and standards’. We run our own post 16 programme and our numbers have increased significantly over the last two years. Outcomes for pupils have risen sharply over the last few years at both GCSE and Post 16 with more able pupils achieving particularly well. We have dedicated time every day for numeracy and reading and also employ additional coaches for maths and English to ensure that all our pupils are equipped to achieve good outcomes at GCSE and beyond.
The school is in a strong position and we intend to go from strength to strength to be regarded as a centre of excellence within the local community and beyond.
We are a small school – this means we can offer a personalized and individual learning experience for young people that only a small school like ours with a totally dedicated staff can give. It can best be described as being part of a caring family, in which guidance and support are ever present, with all pupils being given the opportunity to achieve their highest possible aspirations. We are committed to high standards of academic attainment and achievement through years 7 – 13 enabling all pupils to flourish. This year we are very proud of the two students starting at Oxford University and a further four in year 12 who are currently taking the Oxbridge examination.
Our curriculum is broad and specializes in the strengths of our pupils so it is continually reviewed. Students are also able to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities and a choice of residential and overseas visits. We place a high priority on the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our students, and, as a result, they have a good understanding of how to communicate, behave and appreciate other cultures. Likewise, we foster strong links with our local and wider community, working closely with the Community Partnership, Universities, local societies, churches and libraries, where we regularly hold exhibitions of students’ work. We are one of a few high schools in Staffordshire to host a fully staffed resource base for children with autism. We are very proud of this facility which enables students to follow a full school curriculum and achieve excellent outcomes. Many of our pupils are fully trained autism ambassadors which is a scheme we piloted and are currently rolling out to other schools. This supports our very inclusive school ethos and complements our fully staffed Student Development Centre where pupils can follow personalized learning programmes.
Facilities at Norton Canes High School are outstanding, and we boast a purpose built theatre, an 18-seater training hairdressing salon, a brand new fitness suite and an art gallery to display and encourage the talent of all of our students.
There is a tremendous sense of pride within our school community and a united desire and drive to do the very best for our pupils in all aspects of their education. Staff and governors are totally committed to achieving this and we will pursue the highest possible aspirations for our pupils.
Please visit us on a normal school day and see for yourself, we guarantee a warm and friendly welcome.
