Norton Canes High School and Kingsmead School have worked well together to provide a quality sixth form provision for a number of years. However the challenges of sixth form provision and the needs of our students are constantly changing and therefore the decision has been made that the best way to continue to support our own students is for the Partnership to end and for Norton Canes to have its own sixth form. The Headteacher and governors are committed to providing the best education possible for their students of all ages and for those in the local community.
From September 2015, Norton Canes will have its own sixth form taught by Norton Canes staff on the Norton site. There will continue to be a wide range of courses available and further information about these will be presented at our Sixth Form Information Evening (Thursday, 20th November )
The governors and I believe that this way forward is right for the students at Norton Canes and that this will enable us to continue to improve the results in the sixth form. We hope that the local community responds positively to this change, whereby students are given the best opportunities in life.
Given we have seen results on an upward trend, added to this a threefold growth in student numbers in recent years , the school is now in a position to improve upon this further, already having excellent in year retention rates due to students enjoying their chosen subjects. We know the future is very bright for our students and hope that many more students from the local community will be able to benefit from the excellent teaching provided at Norton Canes High School.
If you have any questions about the changes outlined above, please contact Mr Halford (Head of Post 16) or myself, even better come and visit us on a normal school day.
